Traveller’s TalesAlice Jovanée (she/her) is a commerce writer, and she has been writing about gaming and tech since 2005. Prior to Polygon, she worked at publications such as The Verge.Regardless of how you feel about the current season of Rings of Power, if you’re looking for another way to satiate your Tolkien love you’ll definitely want to check out the current catalog of free games available to Amazon Prime members. Earlier this month, both Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor GOTY Edition, and Lego The Lord of the Rings were made available to Amazon Prime members for free through Sept. 30. However, you can now also pick up Lego The Hobbit for free through Oct. 23. Just head to the corresponding Prime Gaming page and you’ll be presented with a code that you can redeem on GOG.com for a free copy of each. For your convenience, we’ve linked out to both titles below, along with some of the other excellent complementary titles you can get with your Amazon Prime subscription this month.Lego The Hobbit Traveller’s TalesSubstituting the entire cast of Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy with Lego Minifigs provides a substantial improvement not just to the comic relief but its epic set pieces as well. Traveller’s Tales Lego The Hobbit presents an abridged version of Frodo’s quest that is, in my opinion, more enjoyable than the seven-hour-long trilogy. Lego The Hobbit is currently listed for $19.99 on Steam, but Amazon Prime members can pick up this title fro free through Oct. 23. While this free version of the game doesn’t feature any of the additional characters or items included as post-launch DLC, you’ll still have the opportunity to unlock and play almost 100 characters in single-player or local co-op.Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor GOTY Edition WB GamesThe original open-world Lord of the Rings game, Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor is an easy recommendation for fans of the Assassin’s Creed franchise or similar immersive sims. This original story set before the events of The Lord of the Rings features a long list of talented voice actors, including Matthew Mercer, Troy Baker, Jennifer Hale, John DiMaggio, and more. This 2014 title may be a bit long in the tooth, but the gameplay remains solid, and its lower system requirements make it easy to enjoy on the Steam Deck (via a third-party launcher) or other handheld gaming PCs. The GOTY edition comes packaged with all of the post-launch DLC and currently goes for $19.99 on Steam, but Prime Members can add this title to their GOG library for free.Lego The Lord of the RingsSomehow, the developers at Traveller’s Tales have managed to inject the trademark wit and charm of its Lego titles into a franchise that takes itself almost too seriously. Lego The Lord of the Rings offers the familiar co-op friendly gameplay of the Lego games laid on top of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy, complete with voice work from the original cast. This title currently costs $19.99 on Steam, but Amazon Prime members can pick up this game for free.Besides the three outstanding titles based on the Tolkien franchise, Amazon Prime members can snag up to two dozen other free games right now. We encourage you to check out the full list of titles, but we’ve picked out a handful we think you should definitely add to your library before they’re gone.More great free gamesArcade Paradise (expires Nov. 27)Borderlands 2 (expires Nov. 27)Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel (expires Dec. 4)Card Shark (expires Sep. 25)En Garde! Of course, this has prompted even more conversations about the show from the people who made it and those in the know, and now we’ve learned that Keanu Reeves could’ve been part of it.We must take this shocking reveal with a grain of salt, as it’s nothing but a rumor as of now (and it’s unlikely we’ll get a confirmation now that the show is cancelled), but Jeff Sneider, a renowned Hollywood insider, is rarely too far off the mark when it comes to Star Wars, so chances are conversations between Reeves and Lucasfilm did happen at some point. To see this content please enable targeting cookies.Manage cookie settings The news ca…
Read moreYou can stop arguing about where The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom fit on the timeline, as Nintendo has settled it.There are some Zelda games that are very obviously connected to another another in various ways, with titles like Majora’s Mask obviously being a sequel to Ocarina of Time, and A Link to the Past, A Link Between Worlds, and Link’s Awakening all featuring the same Link and Zelda. But for the most part, the timeline, despite being a thing Nintendo canonised with the release of The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia back in 2011, really isn’t all that important. It’s fun to think about the ways the games’ respective histories might have influenced one another, but it’s not that important – even still, people have argued about where Breath of the Wild …

Read moreAs though it’s sensed that Space Marine 2 has dragged us back to the 360 era vibes-wise, Xbox has announced that , as part of what it’s dubbed “an updated friends and followers experience”, it’s bringing back a traditional friend request system reminiscent of the one it had it had back in the day.Yes, this means that you’ll be able to learn even more clearly that that random you think you’ve formed a bond with doesn’t want to be associated with you for more than the few hours they already have. Read moreA bit of good news for fans of HBO’s The Last of Us TV show, season 2 has just got a new trailer and a 2025 release window. No exact day, month, nor season is attached. However, the trailer has given us some more sneak peaks at what’ll be going on in the second season, and judging from what we’re seeing, it looks like everyone is gonna be super happy about life in the post-apocalypse. The trailer is packed full of small cuts of footage worth checking out second-by-second, but some choice highlights include Joel teaching Ellie to play the guitar, Abbie checking out a grave looking awfully sad, and a swarm of infested charging a snowed-in building. How are these things connected? Who could possibly say, but we’re absolutely 100% certain it’ll be fine. To see this content please enable target…
Read moreIt turns out that legendary director Steven Spielberg is quite the gamer, and in particular loves Call of Duty. There’s obviously been several games based off of Spielberg’s works over his many years of filmmaking, so there’s always been a link between the two, but I bet like me you didn’t know that the director likes to play games too. His son, Max Spielberg, recently made an appearance on MinnMax to talk about his upcoming game at FuzzyBot, Lynked: Banner of the Spark (as spotted by Kotaku). Obviously his father came up, because when your name is Spielberg and your dad is Spielberg, people are going to talk about Spielberg. Max has actually been in the industry for a while, having worked on titles like Assassin’s Creed Unity and Battlefield 1, and he shared that it was his dad’s love of g…
